An institution that has stood the test of time, like an unchanging outpost on the silvery waters of Lake Annecy. Within its walls lies a world within a world; a secluded haven where time stands still. Step inside this enchanting and unique universe.
At Auberge du Père Bise, experiences echo one another like the senses. The Restaurant Jean Sulpice, the Hotel, the restaurant Le 1903, the Père Bise Boutique, the Spa: each place extends the next in a peaceful coherence. Here, the waters of Lake Annecy meet the Alpine landscape, horizontal lines converse with the surrounding relief. Since 1903, the house has stood in this precise spot, between gentleness and character, cultivating a singular way of welcoming guests. Time seems to widen here. One comes to breathe, to taste, to fully inhabit the moment. The Auberge offers a rare sense of balance, an art of living rooted in the region, attentive to detail, open to the seasons. Everyone finds their own rhythm, carried by the energy of the place and the simple promise of deep well-being.

“Nestled between lake and mountains, this residence is far more than a simple hotel; it is a destination in itself, where the quest for balance and well‑being unfolds to the rhythm of the lake and the peaks.”
The alpine haute cuisine of chef Jean Sulpice
“The plate is my voice; it defines a life, an experience deeply connected to the land. My greatest passion is to convey a frank and direct emotion to my guests; to empty their minds, so they retain only the essential. To invite them to sit facing the lake, to the sound of lapping water on the terrace in summer, or in winter, in a cozy haven where the snow-capped peaks are reflected in the water. My cuisine’s sole purpose is to be a true and unadulterated testament to the nature that surrounds the Auberge.”
– Jean Sulpice
To take a seat at the gastronomic table is to extend a hand to Jean Sulpice. Taking it, the Chef leads you on his intimate, personal journey; the one he loves to see you take. An ascent towards flavor, through which you encounter passionate producers, fishermen, and farmers, all celebrated here. Like a competitor in his sport, Jean Sulpice, along with those around him, strives to elevate the art of authentic cuisine to its highest level. And, with each course tasted and signature touch appreciated, the culinary journey, once complete, leaves in the heart a simple yet pure feeling of well-being.
Sheltered by the bay of Talloires, overlooking the port, Le 1903 showcases another facet of Jean Sulpice’s cuisine. Its name pays homage to the year the Auberge du Père Bise was founded. Bathed in light beneath the glass roof, the setting opens onto Lake Annecy and invites a more intimate, peaceful moment, directly connected to the Alpine landscape.
On the plate, the chef’s signature style shines through: traditional recipes revisited with precision, local produce expertly prepared, and generous dishes that tell a story of a living culinary history. Emotion flows differently here, in a more refined atmosphere, without compromising on excellence. The wine list complements this identity, highlighting the vineyards of Savoy, Switzerland, Italy, and the great French wine regions. Le 1903 thus affirms its own personality: an elegant and sincere table, driven by the culinary vision of Jean Sulpice, facing Lake Annecy.
At the heart of the Auberge du Père Bise, the Marius Bar extends the spirit of the establishment in a more relaxed, dynamic style. Overlooking Lake Annecy, the jetty, and the gardens, it takes its name from Marius Bise, the founding figure whose warm hospitality has left its mark on the history of the place. Here, conviviality is experienced from morning till night, in rhythm with arrivals, departures, and reunions.
In the early morning, breakfast is enjoyed overlooking the water, bathed in soft light. Breads, pastries, Savoy cheeses, smoked trout, and homemade cakes combine to create a simple yet refined experience. Later, the bar becomes a place to relax. A platter to share, fried perch, a signature pastry, an afternoon snack with the family. Your gaze rests on the alpine landscape, the Entrevernes mountain in the distance, and time seems to slow down.
The wine and cocktail list complements this atmosphere. Infusions, syrups, and alcohol-free creations draw inspiration from the harvests and foraging so dear to Jean Sulpice’s world. The Marius Bar thus embodies another way of experiencing the Auberge: more spontaneous, always elegant, deeply rooted in the local area, and focused on the pleasure of sharing.
The Auberge, an immersive destination
When Magali and Jean were entrusted with the Auberge du Père Bise, they embarked on the concrete dream of restoring it to its rightful place as a true ambassador for Lake Annecy. The rooms, renovated without ever altering the Bise family’s legacy, form the heart of the hotel. A boundary between the crystalline liquid and the rocky mineral world, wherever guests stay at the Auberge, they are transported into a unique symbiosis. Ideal for rejuvenation, and unique in the experience it offers, the Sulpices cherish this retreat. For, in a naturally unpretentious way, they are committed to making their home yours.
“A home is a place to live, with space and smiles. Here, in the heart of Talloires Bay, while we are open to the lake, we primarily want our home to be open to everyone. The hotel is deeply rooted in a local area that fascinates us in every season. This allows you to appreciate, day by day, an ecosystem rich in meaning; when you stay at the Auberge, we want to share with you the sensitivity that inspires us.”
– Magali & Jean Sulpice
The hotel, with its noble and elegant materials, avoids ostentation. Thus, in the renovation, Magali – supported by the talented Émilie Bonaventure – chose to convey the lyricism of the lake. The natural exterior is extended into the cozy comfort of the Auberge’s 23 rooms. From night to morning, a sense of weightlessness awaits you. waiting to come and find you at the opportune moment, tenderly embracing you. A retreat encouraging disconnection, fostering, without fear, the contemplation of the landscape.
Floating between water and greenery, the spa adjacent to the Auberge is shaped – for the most observant – like an upturned boat hull. In an atmosphere designed to open up your senses, the inn’s experience translates into absolute relaxation, with hammam, sauna, sensory shower, cold bath, and outdoor Jacuzzi. Floating across two distinct levels, the Spa provides a breath-taking view, leaving you with the almost unreal feeling of being just one with the lake and its elements.
“Auberge du Père Bise is a singular entity, so it was key for the Spa to blend in seamlessly. It had to appear naturally and match our guests’ emotional experience. Once again, it had to harmoniously coexist with the rest of the house to offer a truly singular experience. Magali decided to draw from the Alpine terroir, favouring its many riches in total agreement with the Auberge’s art-de-vivre.”
– Jean Sulpice
An extension of the senses awakened during your stay, the Boutique du Père Bise introduces or completes the Auberge’s philosophy. A veritable treasure trove of local delicacies, this shop, overflowing with flavors, is sure to be your guilty pleasure; for inside, the Sulpice family has taken great delight in concentrating the very essence of what has made the establishment famous for many years.
“The Boutique is, of course, an invitation to indulge in delicious treats for everyone. Like a small door you step through; once you cross the threshold, you discover a world larger than you imagined. From another perspective, it’s a final farewell to our guests, a last warm embrace accompanied by the wish that they take a piece of our home with them. During the crisis, when the world stood still, it was my restaurant, a platform through which we continued to bring people happiness through taste. Even now, by coming to the Boutique, you can enjoy delicious takeaway meals, chocolates, and picnic baskets—anywhere you like!”
